We left the delights of Lake Geneva and headed south!
First stop Hautrieves. We found a cheapo campsite south of Lyon, and only 200 meteres from a world heritage site- Palais Ideal. We stayed here two nights, and spent the day wondering around the awesome site. A postman called Ferdinand Cheval spent 33 years of his life creating this weird building, he collected stones of interesting shapes on his 27km daily mail round, left them in piles and went back to collect them with his wheelbarrow later on in the day. Some of the palace was slightly grotesque where he seemed to go overboard on decoration, but it made looking at it all the more fun, trying to work out what each bit meant! An inspiring day out.
